Debra Slaughter, CPC
Manager
Debra Slaughter has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry in the areas of revenue cycle management and operations. She possesses a strong working knowledge in multiple components of healthcare providers (hospitals, home health agencies, skilled nursing facilities, and physician groups). As a manager with BlickenWolf, Debra is able to pinpoint crucial operational and procedural issues that can lead to compliance violations and lost revenue. She is adept at revenue cycle analysis and assists clients in developing streamlined processes designed to meet their unique needs.
Debra assists BlickenWolf clients in the following areas:
- Analyzes claims and reviews records as part of corporate investigations, internal audits and litigation support
- Enhances compliance training activities facility wide or departmentally
- Performs risk assessments and diagnostic reviews for various types of providers as part of an organization's overall strategy to ensure federal and State regulatory compliance
- Assists clients in meeting the requirements of a Corporate Integrity Agreement
- Performs assessments of billing systems and develops new strategies for efficient billing and coding processes and procedures
Debra currently assists with curriculum development and review as a member of the Medical Assistant/Coding/Transcriptionist Advisory Board at South Suburban College in South Holland, Illinois. Debra has also been an instructor for several colleges in the Chicago area, teaching numerous courses on inpatient and outpatient billing, medical terminology, and medical office assistant training.
Prior to joining BlickenWolf, Debra was the owner of DMS Services, a consulting firm advising healthcare clients in areas of billing and coding development, compliance, and collections. Debra has also held senior billing management positions for a number of healthcare provider organizations, successfully increasing profitability and productivity by:
- training and developing staff,
- implementing and creating effective policies and procedures,
- setting and exceeding departmental goals,
- decreasing the A/R, decreasing the DSO, and increasing cash flow
Debra is a member of the Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration from Governor State University.
